SIBU: The local council should arrange to clean the moss and grime from the ground at the “Dolphin Landmark” of the Yu Clan Association’s park in the vicinity of the Central Market here to ensure the park’s aesthetics and the safety of public activities.
Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew said he has received complaints from the public about the slippery moss and accumulated grime on the tiles and cement ground at the area which has not yet been cleaned by municipal council.
He hoped the SMC can regularly arrange for staff to clean the park to ensure that pedestrians and visitors can move around in a safe and clean environment, avoiding accidents due to slipping.
He emphasised the need to especially consider the safety of elderly people, women, and children during their activities.
“SMC has the responsibility to arrange for cleaning as soon as possible, keeping the pathways at the ‘Dolphin Landmark’ clean and aesthetically pleasing. I note that although there is less moss on the marble spheres at the landmark this time, the municipal council should still clean them to enhance the park’s beauty, as it is located in the heart of Sibu.
“There are several parks and squares in Sibu’s urban area, which are symbolic recreational spaces that enhance the town’s aesthetics. Maintaining their cleanliness and beauty is important for providing residents with a pleasant space for leisure and giving tourists a memorable impression of Sibu.
“I also urge the public to raise their civic awareness and moral standards by not littering, keeping public spaces and parks clean, not damaging plants or public property, and with the municipal council maintaining the parks regularly, this would greatly improve Sibu’s image and leave a positive impression on tourists,” he stated.
Pointing out that a good looked-after park can leave a lasting impression on tourists, he said, this plays a significant role in promoting Sibu.
