MIRI: Datuk Dennis Ngau has urged the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication to provide an immediate solution following the fire that engulfed the solar station in Kampung Long Tap, Baram on Wednesday, which left 640 villagers without power
Telang Usan assemblyman suggested the installation of a generator as a temporary measure.
“I am confident that the ministry or Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) will work to restore the system as soon as possible. It may take some time, as the proper processes must be followed,” Dennis said on Saturday.
He further shared that earlier this morning (Saturday, September 14), Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, the Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, reached out to confirm the details of the incident.
“We need an alternative source of electricity in the meantime,” he said.
Dennis emphasised the urgency of the situation, especially with the year-end festivities approaching.
“Christmas is around the corner, and the villagers need power. I have asked Datuk Seri Julaihi to expedite the process,” he added.
On September 11, a fire destroyed the solar station, plunging 640 residents of Kampung Long Tap into darkness.
The structure, a temporary building housing the village’s solar power generator, was completely destroyed, along with all batteries and equipment.
A team of firemen from Marudi responded to the scene on September 12 after being alerted by villagers.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
