KUCHING: Stakan will become a booming economic centre, much like Kuching, due to its many economic developments and activities, said its assemblyman.
“There are many businesses in Stakan so, it is not impossible to develop the area and turning it into an economic centre.
“Even the distribution of population in the Samarahan area today is centred in Stakan compared to other areas.”
Datuk Hamzah Brahim told the media this after attending the Stakan Service Centre’s appreciation night here on Sunday night.
“In my view, I will allow the economic sector to take place in the area, so that when Stakan’s economy grows, its status in Samarahan as a suburb will change to a city one day.
“With housing developments and commercial centres, people can start their business and, so far, a lot of them have started in Stakan area.
“I have mentioned before that I want to focus on human capital and development.”
Hamzah said that government agencies, ministries and others had offered many grants for the purpose of boosting economy.
Hence, he and his team would try to involve agencies and ministries to create policies so that Stakan would be active with industries with the assistance of the government.
“I will also go to education institutions in Samarahan like Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and others to ask them to bring their expertise and knowledge to Stakan folk.
“For example, UiTM has the knowledge on modern agriculture, so why don’t we teach the people and practis e modern agriculture?
“This is what I am trying to bring to the community in Stakan so that they can benefit from what the government has provided.”
