SARATOK: Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri is willing to utilise available funds to refurbish run down Community Development Department (Kemas) nurseries in his constituency.
He said these facilities need to be upgraded although they come under the federal government’s purview.
“As you already know, most Kemas kindergartens or nurseries are in various buildings, residents’ homes, surau and so on,” he said.
“So if you think about it, who is studying there? The children of our nation, the children of our people, the children of Sarawak.”
In this context he said it was disappointing that an issue had gone viral on Tabika Kemas Sungai Nyiar being wanting.
“We acknowledge that the building is unsuitable for children’s comfort and safety.
“For that purpose, I am ready to use the available allocation to refurbish in stages Kemas nurseries in the constituency which are dilapidated,” he said.
He said this after the symbolic inauguration of the Ramadan Guidelines Programme 2024: Distribution of Spicy Porridge organised by Kemas Saratok District in collaboration with the Kalaka Assemblyman’s Service Centre, yesterday.
Mohamad also floated the possibility of building a community centre to be used as a nursery as a long-term solution.
“As for Tabika Kemas Kampung Hulu Perpat and Tabika Kemas Kampung Paloh, I understand there is already provision for repairs, which will be implemented in the near future,” he said.
There are similar plans for five additional preschools and nurseries which are in terrible condition, he added.
These are Kemas Kindergarten Kampung Hilir Kupang NKRA, Kemas Kindergarten Kampung Kupang, Kemas Kindergarten Perpat Tengah, Taska Kemas Kampung Perpat and kemas Kindergarten Kampung Kaba A and B.
“Everything that is in poor condition is planned to be repaired,” he added.
