ROBAN: The replica of the Iban longhouse, which was the main attraction of the Roban Festival last year, continues to be maintained and given a new lease of life and touch-ups ahead of the Roban Food Festival from Sept 13 to 29.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said the replica Iban longhouse is among the highlights being emphasised as the main attraction.
“Yesterday, I had the opportunity to oversee the community work to upgrade the replica longhouse that was a phenomenon at last year’s Roban Festival.
“The organisers are giving it a new lease of life and touch-ups to ensure it remains an icon and tourist attraction here.”
He said this after inspecting the community work preparations for the Roban Food Festival in Roban yesterday.
He explained that the three-room replica longhouse has its own uniqueness.
“Each room is arranged according to the authenticity of a real longhouse.
“Thus, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the ‘olden days’ atmosphere in the Iban longhouse.
“Congratulations to all involved in showcasing the uniqueness of the longhouse, including customs and increasingly forgotten ways of life.”
He added that last year, the Roban Festival successfully left a valuable experience for visitors, especially those who had the chance to visit the replica Iban longhouse built with original and traditional concepts.
“When the replica was opened to the public, it received very encouraging responses from various ethnic groups, including Malay, Chinese, and Iban.
“This is because it showcases the uniqueness of arts, old items, kitchen and cooking equipment, water storage areas, farming tools, and much more.
“God willing, this year’s Roban Food Festival will make it even more lively,” he added.
