KUCHING: Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii (GPS – Repok) is confident that the enforcement of the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 will be one of the main sources of income for Sarawak.
“With this, it will enable Sarawak to implement and launch more development projects for the good of the people.
“I hope more Sarawakian companies will be given the opportunity for contracts and businesses and that a lot of Sarawakians will be given employment opportunities in the oil and gas industry,” he said.
He said this during the debate for the Oil Mining (Amendment) Bill 2018 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.
He explained that starting from 1 July 2018, the state government has enforced the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 which gives power exclusively to Sarawak to manage and supervise oil operations in the state and that he hopes more oil companies in Sarawak will adhere to the ordinance.
“To me, this is a sure way to ensure that Sarawak will be able to manage its oil resources by supervising all oil companies operating in the state.
“At the same time, we work together with Petronas within the frames of this Ordinance so that it can benefit the people of Malaysia, especially Sarawakians,” he said.
