PADAWAN: People have been advised to put their trust in the police and lodge a report on any crime to allow the authorities enforce the law.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad made this call after a Grab food delivery rider’s post on Facebook went viral on three unknown motorcycles chasing him in the Malihah-Serapi area.

He called on the public not to make any speculations or statements in relation to the post.

“Ideally, if there is such an incident, the individual or victim should come forward to lodge a police report so that a follow-up action can be taken.

“We call on the community to put their trust in the police to enforce the law.

“Such statements posted on social media do not only give a negative impression regarding the level of security but it is feared that it may be just one of the facilitation methods of certain individuals to get ratings on social media sites,” he said.

Abang Zainal pointed out that statements which can cause public annoyance on social media platforms, can be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Yesterday (Apr 25) at 12pm, police detected a Facebook post by the delivery rider who claimed he was delivering food to the Malihah-Serapi area on Monday night (Apr 24).

In the post, the rider said he was riding his motorcycle alone on a dark road when he spotted three unknown motorcycles giving chase and trying to surround him.

“The rider turned back and sped off to the Matang area until he encountered a vehicle and asked the driver to help accompany him to deliver the food to the destination.”

Abang Zainal said so far no police report has been lodged by the owner of the account in relation to the alleged incident.

A check on the Facebook post found that it was uploaded at 12.07am with a photo of the order details from the Grab app.
