CUSTOMERS with concerns regarding water rate charges for shophouses imposed by the Kuching Water Board (KWB) are encouraged to lodge reports directly with the office.
“For customers who believe they are being charged unfairly for their water bills, they can report the matter directly to the KWB office,” said Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
“We also have to ascertain whether the ones staying inside the shoplots are owners or tenants.
“If the owners are renting the shophouse space to tenants, it means they are doing business and may fall under certain categories.”
Julaihi made these remarks in response to a question from Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen during his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday (May 13).
Earlier, Chong asked the Sebuyau assemblyman if the ministry plans to revert the rates charged upon tenants in shophouses.
As such, Julaihi stressed that tenants should lodge reports directly to the KWB office instead of bringing up the issues at Chong’s constituency service centre.
