KUCHING: Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan visited the fire victims of the Rumah Sebom Nanga Masak on Monday.
It is understood that both Nanta and Lidam had provided assistance earlier, but they still made time to visit the fire victims themselves.
During the visit, Nanta called on the residents to make police reports on the loss of important documents such as identity cards, bank cards, gun licenses, and others so that new documents could be made.
“I also told residents to find a new site to build their new longhouse, and hope that all the residents would cooperate with the village chief and agencies involved so that the process of building the new longhouse would proceed smoothly,” he said.
Nanta added that with the cooperation from the residents, it would be easy for him and Lidam to help in building the new longhouse later on.
“Therefore, I hope that the assistance from me, Lidam, and the Department of Social Welfare can ease the burden for residents to build temporary shelter,” he said.
In addition, he also extended assistance of RM10,000 to the fire victims for the purpose of repairing the pipes and building new toilets.
In the fire incident that occurred on Oct 4, 32 doors of the longhouse were completely destroyed, and an elderly lost his life.
