Many residents in Sarikei hope that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government can help the B40 and M40 groups to cope up with the rising house prices as they are unable to own a property in this current time.
GPS-Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said this when debating in support of the Supply 2023 (Bill 2022) that many in Sarikei hope that the government can come out with a provision like the Affordable Housing Schemes that are available in other places in Sarawak.
“Therefore, I once again request to the Ministry to build more low and medium cost houses in my area like the Affordable Housing Scheme projects that have been launched in other cities, I suggest that such facilities be made available to Repok area as well.
“Besides that, I have received many complaints about parking problems at Sarikei Polyclinic and I hope the area around the old Sarikei hospital can be opened up and upgraded to accommodate more vehicles as this area has been abandoned for a long time.
“Sarikei Sports Complex and its swimming pool are dilapidated and require immediate attention to improve both facilities and with the complex being the only sports venue for students, I hope that the facilities can be upgraded,” he added.
“With my aforementioned remarks, I support the Bill,” he concluded.
