KUCHING: The establishment of the Sarawak Research & Development Council is far from being ‘redundant’. This was said by Minister of Educat ion, Science, and Technological Research, Dato Sr i Michael Manyin Jawong with regards to Kota Sentosa Assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen calling the council redundant.
Earlier, Manyin was tabling the Sarawak Research & Development Council Bill 2017 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at DUN Complex in Petra Jaya here yesterday.
“The Bill is actually to put the state in the front line as part of research and development (R&D). There are a few institutions conducting researchers but there is no coordination, no collaboration, and no monitoring because there is no council to do that.
“With the establishment of this council there will be one to work together with them; it is not to take away their autonomy. The council will also work with them on how to commercialise their findings,” he said in a press conference.
Also present were Assistant Mini s ter of Educat ion and Technological Research, Dr Annuar Rapaee and Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Education, Science, and Technological Research, Datu Sudarsono Osman.
