SIMANGGANG: A resident from Jalan Brayun here is eager to present a contemporary-style woven belt as a gift to Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah during the Kembara Kenali Borneo convoy’s visit on Tuesday (Sept 12).

Angelia David, a registered member of the Malaysian Craft Development Corporation, expressed her excitement about meeting Tunku Azizah for the second time.

She shared her admiration for the Queen’s kind, gentle and down-to-earth personality during their first encounter at the National Craft Day in Kuala Lumpur in March.

Angelia’s gift also includes a traditional basket produced by the Sarawak Women’s Association Federation (PPWS) Sri Aman Branch, and a portrait from their previous meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

She described the woven belt as a modern take on traditional jewellery, designed to suit Tunku Azizah’s style.

As a rural resident, Angelia emphasised the significance of the visit by Their Majesties during the Kembara Kenali Borneo.

“For ordinary citizens like us, it’s not easy to meet them in person. So, if there’s an opportunity, I’d like to give something as a memento.”

“However, after it was announced that the convoy is not stopping in Sri Aman, I was a bit disappointed. I couldn’t meet her for the second time or present her the gift,” she said.

Angelia highlighted the growing openness in society towards traditional accessories, emphasising that people of various ethnic backgrounds appreciate traditional jewelry.

She encouraged craft makers in Sri Aman to register as members of the Malaysian Craft Development Corporation to access government benefits and support.
