KUCHING: The residents of Belawai are encouraged to make full use of social media tools to promote Belawai further both domestically and internationally.

Tanjong Manis MP Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab said that social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube are one of the most effective tools to introduce a location.

“When events take place in Belawai with enthusiastic public participation, whether through photos or videos, these can be uploaded.

“Consequently, this will pique the interest and attention of the public, and interested parties may consider organising programmes here,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the 2023 Belawai Culture and Food Festival held recently at Belawai Beach.

Yusuf added that there are products, including food items that are produced in Kampung Belawai and its surrounding areas.

“Therefore, it is hoped that such festivals can continue in the coming years by increasing the promotion of the local culture and food products here,” he said.

With such an event being held, he said it will indeed have a big impact on the socio-economic status of the local population as well as increase their income.

Earlier, the programme which started on Sept 8 until 10 saw various activities held such as karaoke competitions, boat decoration, tug of war, kite shows, cooking competitions and the sale of various local products, involving over 100 stalls.
