KUALA BALINGIAN: A house fire in Kuala Balingian, Mukah, early Saturday (Aug 3) morning destroyed a single-storey shop house and spared nine of its residents.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba, the fire was reported at 2.35am, which prompted a response from the Mukah Fire Station to the scene.
Upon arrival, the fire department found that the fire had completely engulfed a single-storey shop house with a non-permanent structure, measuring 50 x 30 square feet.
Firefighters also reported that the entire structure was 100 per cent destroyed.
All nine residents of the house were safely evacuated. Firefighters used a 100-foot hose line and a nearby open water source to extinguish the remaining flames.
Meanwhile in Miri, a kitchen in Taman Tunku caught fire around 6am today which prompted a response from the Miri Sentral Fire Station team.
Upon arrival, the firefighters reported that the kitchen fire had already been extinguished by civilians.
Using the R.E.C.E.O. (Rescue, Exposure, Confinement, Extinguishment, Overhaul) concept, firefighters confirmed that the fire was out and conducted a thorough inspection to ensure the area was safe.
The fire caused only 5 per cent smoke damage to the structure. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire and total damage are still under investigation.
