SONG: Residents here were taken aback by the sight of a logjam phenomenon in Batang Rajang today (Mar 3).

Huge piles of drifting wood were noticed around 10 am in front of the town’s passenger terminal pier and riverbank.

This rare phenomenon, believed to have originated from the upstream areas, bears similarities to incidents that occurred in 2021 and 2010.

Netizens quickly took to social media to share photos and videos of the drifting wood, which almost covered the river path.

Some speculated that the piles of wood came from the upstream of Katibas River, possibly drifted due to the recent non-stop rainfall.

Local folk, who want to cross the river to the other side or return to their respective villages, have to wait at the terminal pier until the river is clear as they do not dare to cross the huge piles of drifting wood.
