SIBU: As the rainy season persists, residents residing in low-lying areas prone to flooding are urged to exercise caution and preparedness.

Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie highlighted the importance of being proactive, stressed the need for residents to be ready to relocate to designated evacuation centres when advised by the authorities.

Recent flooding incidents in various areas underscore the urgency of such precautions.

“With frequent heavy rainfall, especially in high-risk zones, I consistently advise residents to be prepared for relocation upon authorities’ instructions.

“For those residing along riverbanks, I caution them against venturing down to rivers and canals for fishing, as we are concerned about potential unforeseen incidents,” he said when contacted today.

Andy stressed the significance of pre-flood measures, including staying informed about flood warnings through various channels such as social media, radio, and newspapers. When relocating, he advised bringing only essential items, documents, and medications, while also identifying the nearest Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS).
