KUALA LUMPUR : T h e Ministry of Human Resources encourages restaurant and eatery operators to hire qualified cooks from local government- run training institutions.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Mahfuz Omar said it was to ensure that young people receiving intensive training and having specialised skills in this field can earn a steady income.

“The government will continue to cater to various local industry training agendas in the culinary field and related disciplines that have been initiated by the previous government.

“Cooking can no longer be looked down upon, it even has its own class as local training institutions have produced many accredited people in cooking,” he said in a question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Mahfuz was replying to a question by Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (BN-Tapah) on government plans to ensure that youth who attended the skills training provided by the government, especially in the field of culinary arts, had a fixed income and do not continue to drop out despite having the expertise.-Bernama
