KUCHING: Sarawakians must remain patient and understand that all restrictions during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and Hari Raya are necessary to beat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip said the relaxations were made to make life easier as they allowed factories and businesses to open so that people could go to work and move around.
“These relaxations are meant to make life less restrictive as there are fewer roadblocks now, and the one person per vehicle ruling has been changed to two per vehicle and now four people are allowed in a car.
“And the police are no longer checking the number of persons per car but they want to know the destination because inter-district travel is still prohibited,” he said in his Hari Raya greetings yesterday.
Talib, who is also the Jepak assemblyman, further predicted that this year’s Hari Raya celebration would be a quiet one as open houses and house-to-house visits are not allowed.
He also reiterated that visits to cemeteries and group Aidilfitri prayers were prohibited, and crowded places should be avoided as much as possible.
“Having said all that, don’t forget that we still have to practise social distancing and take care of our personal hygiene. Be patient and understand that all these are necessary to beat the Covid-19 pandemic. We have to adjust,” he said.
He also reminded the public to recognise and appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of frontliners such as doctors, nurses, attendants, cooks, cleaners, police, Rela members, council staff members, volunteers and so on.
“Let us all cooperate to win this battle, which includes celebrating Hari Raya in a more restrained manner in accordance with the regulations,” he said.
