KUCHING: The state Ex-Police Association of Malaysia (PBPM) will continue to serve and contribute to the community.

Its chairman ASP (R) Benjamin Gersit Jais said the association can work together with the police force in addressing social issues and combat crime activities in crime-prone areas.

“Although we are retirees, we are still able to contribute our services and assist in terms of providing information and being the ‘eyes and ears’ for the police apart from manpower and conveying ideas in effort to curb crime activities.

“Police retirees can play their roles similar to when they were in service by giving their expertise and experiences to ensure security in their respective areas,” Benjamin said when met by reporters at the state PBPM 42nd annual general meeting which was officiated at by state headquarters administrative (policy) chief Supt James Jonathan at a hotel here on Wednesday.

Benjamin also pointed out that members of the association should not view the association as just a welfare body.

“Use our association as a medium to cooperate with other relevant agencies,” he told the members.

Benjamin also hoped that the association could serve its members especially in empowering former police personnel and looking after their welfare.

He revealed that there are presently some 3,800 police retirees in the state.

Hence, he urged the members to look for police retirees and to register them as members of the association to enable them to get assistance for which they are eligible for.

Meanwhile, James in his speech assured that the police retirees would not be neglected in terms of their welfare and recognition (medal) which they deserved during their service.
