KUCHING: Retired civil servants are encouraged to leverage their experience, expertise and wisdom to continue making valuable contributions to Sarawak’s development.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said although no longer active in official duties, they still have great potential to contribute through various channels.

He said that the experience they have is an invaluable asset and it can continue to have a positive impact on the community as well as strengthen joint efforts to achieve greater progress for the state.

“I believe that those who have retired, have benefited from the work that has been done, because of the great impact it has had on all of our lives.

“We are preparing ourselves together to face the challenges ahead.

“On behalf of the Sarawak government, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the services that have been provided and happy retirement. I hope you have set an example for those who are still in the civil service,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Civil Service ‘Sekalung Budi’ ceremony at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Dining Hall on Monday.

During the event, Abang Johari presented souvenirs to 12 senior government officials who retired in 2023 and 2024.

They are former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Edwin Abit, former Human Resource Management and Development Unit director Datuk Ismail Mohamad Hanis, former Sarawak Sewerage Services Department director Datuk Lau Hieng Ung, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Azmi Bujang, former Sarawak Public Service Commission deputy chairman Alexander Unya Ambon, former Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) director Datuk Jack Aman Luat, former Miri Division Resident Jamalie Busri, former Marudi District Officer Belayong Pok, former Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transport Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, former Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Noriah Ahmad, former Pantu District Officer Langgong Wasam, and former Pusa District Officer Bujang Ladi.

Also present are Sarawak DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Sarawak Attorney General Datuk Seri Saferi Ali.
