KUCHING: Retired civil servants of the state have been encouraged to provide lectures regarding the public service sector.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this could provide wider exposure to the community, especially the young ones in the related fields.
“Often, universities or educational institutions will ask people who have the experience to give lectures or become part-time lecturers.
“We have five training institutions in Sarawak, and I will ask them to be part of it because, with the use of textbooks as well as the knowledge from experienced people, it will enrich the knowledge of the young people who are pursuing their studies,” he was quoted as saying by TVS in a news report.
He was speaking at the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) appreciation night held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday (Jan 28).
In a related matter, the civil servants were also given a pat on the back for providing excellent service to the state.
Abang Johari said he was grateful to all the civil servants, who together with the government had faced the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I know it was not easy at that moment of time because the country was faced with a high death rate (due to COVID-19) and there was no availability of certified medicine or vaccines. Our economy was also affected, with people losing their income.
“But we are able to deal with COVID-19 successfully with the cooperation of all parties, especially the civil servants,” he stressed.
During the event, 22 former civil servants were celebrated as an expression of appreciation for their service and contribution to the state.
In line with this, Abang Johari said, the government is always thankful and appreciates all members of the civil service.
