KUCHING: Former deputy home minister Datuk Masir Kujat has reaffirmed his decision to retire from active politics and will not cross over to Pakatan Harapan (PH).
He denied rumours of him planning to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) a component party of PH.
This is the second time that Masir, who is a Member of Parliament of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), a component of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), denied the rumour. The first was shortly after last May 9 general election.
The rumour stopped after his denial, but has resurfaced of late after he was seen to be close to a former lawmaker who is said to be “on the hunt to recruit” MPs from other parties to join PKR.
Masir, who is Sri Aman MP, said, “If ever I joined PKR, it would be on one condition, that is, all GPS (elected representatives) join PKR too,” he said as quoted by an online news portal DayakDaily.
“People make up a lot of stories, but (about me planning to join PKR) it’s not true.”
Masir said he has been serving as Sri Aman MP for 15 years, and now at the age of 69 he wants to give up his seat to a younger leader.
