KUCHING: Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok has expressed his optimism regarding the return of 52 land lots out of the 219 land parcels, as it signifies positive relations between the federal and Sarawak Government.
The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan chairman stated that this development marked the beginning of settling unused federal land, following prolonged negotiations that began during the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s tenure.
“The agreement to return federal land acquired in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), which has remained unused for a sustained period, will enable the Sarawak government to develop these lands.
“This is also to restore one of the rights that has eroded over the years” he said in a statement recently.
Additionally, he highlighted the return of the General Post Office building at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here to Sarawak government as great news.
“This heritage building can be rehabilitated by the state government and put into good use which will bring benefits to all Sarawakians,” he said.
