KUCHING: All students from local public and private institutions of higher learning (IPTA, IPTS) who have returned to their respective homes, but are yet to be screened, have to report to the respective divisional Resident’s Office to undergo health screening.
“This is necessary so that we can identify the health status of the students,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily press conference today.
He pointed out that SDMC had decided to implement the measure after the recent positive case involving a student from Kolej I-System in Kuching returning to Tanjung Manis.
“The Divisional Residents have been directed to organise a programme to ensure that the students are screened so that we know their condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that SDMC was still in discussions as to whether Sarawak would follow the Health Ministry’s new policy of discharging Covid-19 patients even if they tested positive at the end of their 14-day hospital treatment as announced by Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Tuesday (May 26).
“Sarawak’s scenario is slightly different; some of the patients are from the deep interior of Sarawak and around the coastal areas and so on. So, we are leaving that decision to our expert doctors,” said Uggah, who is SDMC chairman.
He said doctors might also take into consideration the home conditions of the patient with regard to its suitability for the patient to go back at that point.
“We leave the decision to the doctors in hospitals in Sarawak. They will let us know in the next few days,” he said.
