SIBU: Former students of Sacred Heart Secondary School are gearing up for their school’s annual grand reunion slated for March 28 at Kingwood Hotel here.

The Class of ’86 is no exception and has begun reaching out to former classmates.

“We have been organising our own class reunion for the past five years, one night before the school’s grand reunion,” said Joseph Lau, the class president.

He added that it had been nothing but a fun and boisterous affair as schoolmates gather as school boys once again.

This year, the class reunion is scheduled on March 27 at one of their classmate’s restaurant, Home Cook Corner.

Anticipating that there would be at least 30 classmates attending, Joe, as he is affectionately called by his school buddies, said the deadline for confirmation would be March 1, 2020.

He revealed that for the year 2020, the Class of ’86 (86ixers) would be taking it easy and savour what they had achieved over the past five years, including raising a total of RM126,500 for the School’s Redevelopment Fund and 86ixers Underprivileged Students Fund.

“Like many former students, the 86ixers also dug deep into their pockets and contributed to our alma mater,” Joe said.

Of the total amount raised, RM35,000 was allocated for their pet project ― The 86ixers Underprivileged Students Fund, while the balance of RM91,500 went to paying some of the school’s redevelopment debts.

“We’ve come a long way since we first gathered as a big group in 2015. We hope that as we age, more of us would come together, head back to the school and help our alma mater in different ways and means,” he said.

Sacred Heart Secondary School is renowned for producing outstanding students in not just academic and sports but many who have rose to important posts in various professions. And the former students’ passion for their alma mater is legendary.
