KUCHING: Are Kuchingnites getting more narrower roads in shophousing areas? Or is it a trend to go for reverse parking due to impatient drivers?
The trend now for most drivers is to go for reverse parking and it is not surprising to see car drivers reverse parked in parking bays.
According to a driver, Jake, after he collided with a car who was reversing out at the same time as him last year, he has gone for reverse parking since then.
He added that the roads nowadays appear to be narrower due to discriminated illegal side parking and drivers these days tend to be impatient.
In the past, when he reversed his car out of the parking bay, no one bothered to stop for him so it was best to go for reverse parking and to drive out easily.
Meanwhile, Padawan Minicipal Council (MPP) engineer Daniel Goh said that the parking bay for vehicles remain the same which is 5.5m x 2.5m in parallel and right angle, 5m x 2.5m.
He added that reverse parking is a Japanese culture and he is glad that the trend is catching up here.
“In government agencies, reverse parking is encouraged so that in times of emergency, the drivers can get out faster and safer,” he said.
Goh also stated that in Shell, it is a must to go for reverse parking and he himself is doing that.
