KUCHING: The Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak (CNS) has requested that the federal government examine their suggestion regarding the reassessment of the Bayaran Insentif Wilayah (BIW) rate for federal employees serving in Sarawak.
“Although the increase in the number is small, we (CNS) detect a significant impact on governmental officials’ emoluments.
“As a result, we encourage the federal government to examine the BIW rate, which has not been reviewed in 15 years, meanwhile cost of living allowances (Cola) has been reviewed and received a RM50 rise,” said Ahmad Malie.
He said this at a ceremony held in conjunction with his departure as CNS president and the appointment of the new president of CNS at CNS Office on Sunday (May 23).
According to the current rate, BIW is paid based on a civil servant’s grade and basic wage.
“We hope that the federal government would take our suggestion into consideration and implement it for the benefit of federal civil servants in Sarawak.
“Prior to the change of government (Barisan Nasional to Pakatan Harapan), this matter appeared to be receiving attention but due to the change of government this issue has been dropped.
“As a result, we always remind the government that this subject must also be taken into account in whatever they consider in the future — looking at the wellbeing of civil servants,” he said.
