THE Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development has been urged to look into and provide necessary support for the production of the iconic local fruit — the Limau Bintangor, or locally referred to as the green orange.

Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing (GPS-Meradong) said the fruit is on the decline due to many factors, among which are the stiff competition from other local and imported fruits and the lack of funding from the relevant authority for this fruit.

“I therefore urge the ministry to look into this matter seriously and help to revive the once famous and adorable local fruit that was loved by everyone from near and far,” he said.

He said this during his debate in support of the Supply Bill 2025 today.

To ensure the sustainability of the fruit, Ding said he has also organised dialogue sessions with the Limau Bintangor planters and Meradong District Agriculture Department.

“This is to find out the difficulties faced by the farmers and possible solutions to improve the production of the fruit,” he said.
