KUCHING: Richard Bada has made a remarkable mark in athletics by winning his third gold medal in shot put, his favourite event.

The 31-year-old athlete, competing in the F41 category (short stature), achieved a stellar throw of 7.73 metres, adding to his golds in javelin and discus.

Earlier this month, Richard told Sarawak Tribune that his ambition was to secure gold in all three events, a goal he proudly accomplished.

“This third gold medal is dedicated to my family and to all of Sarawak,” he told reporters at Sarawak Stadium today.

An Iban from Serian, Richard has committed the last decade to his sport, beginning his journey in 2016.

While he currently works as a waiter at a local food outlet, he plans to invest the RM45,000 incentive from his gold medal win into essential items.

“I would use the incentive to buy what is only needed.

“Before the training camp for Para SUKMA, I would work first. After the Games, I’ll continue working while being on standby, staying ready for training,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Richard aims to represent Malaysia at the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand and is dedicated to intensifying his training in preparation for the Games.

“Hopefully I get to represent Malaysia in the SEA Games in Thailand,” he added.
