KUCHING: Richard Lias has been elected as the new president of Dayak National Congress (DNC) for the term from 2023-2026.
DNC, in a statement, announced the successful conclusion of its Supreme Council election, adding that it marked a significant step towards achieving its objectives of safeguarding and preserving Dayak customs.
“The election, held during the Triennial General Assembly (TGA) on October 21, witnessed several changes and new faces filling up the Supreme Council office.
“The newly elected Supreme Council, comprising accomplished individuals from diverse backgrounds, brings together a wealth of expertise and a shared commitment to fostering collaboration, transparency, and effective governance,” DNC said recently.
DNC also asserted its collective vision to address contemporary challenges, particularly those affecting the Dayak community, such as climate change, poverty, and inequality, by promoting innovative and equitable solutions through various collaborative cooperation.
“The key elected members of the Supreme Council for the term from 2023-2026 also elected George Young Si Ricord Junior as Deputy President, Douglas Alau as Secretary General, Andygie Gines as Assistant Secretary, Favien Tisen as Treasurer and Dominic Retan Giah as Assistant Treasurer.
“Each council member brings a unique set of skills and experiences, contributing to the diversity and dynamism of the leadership team.
“Their combined expertise in areas such as international relations, sustainable development, governance, and technology will enable DNC to chart a transformative path forward,” DNC said.
Meanwhile, in his inaugural speech, Richard Lias gave his appreciation to Paul Raja, his predecessor for his leadership and achievements during his tenure as president.
“I want to acknowledge the responsibility bestowed upon him and pledged to carry forward DNC core values with utmost dedication and reiterate the same commitment from his new Supreme Council members.
“We will prioritise engaging with other like minded Dayak NGOs to build meaningful partnerships and harness collective wisdom in addressing various Dayak issues and challenges,” he said.
Meanwhile, Paul Raja expressed his gratitude to the outgoing council for their tireless efforts and invaluable contributions to DNC’s mission and acknowledged the responsibility bestowed upon them.
“Members must continue to give your support and commitment to Richard Lias and his Supreme Council,” he added.
Before the commencement of the meeting, a minute of silence was observed for the late Edward Luak who passed away this year.
DNC also conveyed a congratulatory message on the recent title conferment of Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu to Jalumin Bayogoh which carries the title Datuk.
Also present were Granda Aing, Dr Dusit Jaul and Datuk John Tenewi who are Special Advisors to the Congress.
