KUCHING: Traffic police arrested a local man for endangering himself and others by performing a dangerous motorcycle stunt during a four-day integrated operation named ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’.
The operation, which ran from 9 pm on Friday (Mar 8) to 5 am on Monday (Mar 11), took place around the Masja area, Jalan Astana, Jalan Datuk Patinggi Tun Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin, and Jalan Datuk Patinggi Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob.
Kuching Deputy Police Chief Supt Merbin Lisa said that the 21-year-old rider was apprehended for executing a ‘wheelie’ along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob.
“He was taken into custody for the offense under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“If convicted, the offense carries a fine of up to RM15,000 and imprisonment for a term of up to five years, as well as license disqualification for a term of up to five years,” he said.
Additionally, the police confiscated 21 motorcycles under Section 60 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for various offenses.
During the operation, the police inspected 190 motorcycles and 215 individuals, issuing a total of 145 traffic summonses for various traffic offenses, including the lack of side mirrors (34), non-compliant plate numbers (26), vehicle structure or equipment modification (20), exhaust modification (18), driving without a license (15), and others.
Merbin said that the operation, led by Insp Muhammad Amirul Azami Ahmad Rasol, involved 12 officers from the Kuching Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
