KUCHING: The Magistrate Court fined a local man RM1,500, in default two months in prison, for evading the police during an integrated crime prevention operation at Jalan Belian on Feb 12.

Shafik, 21, from Kampung Semerah Padi Baru, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing the duties of a civil servant by evading a police inspection around 2 am.

According to the case facts, the police had instructed Shafik to stop for an inspection, but he refused and attempted to evade them. However, he was quickly apprehended by the police when he fell to the roadside. His motorcycle was confiscated as evidence.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, who prosecuted the case, requested that an appropriate punishment be imposed as a lesson for Shafik.
