SARIKEI: A 19-year-old motorcyclist faced an unfortunate start to the New Year’s Eve celebrations after a collision with a car along Jalan Masjid Lama here last night (Dec 30).

The collision resulted in an open wound on his forehead and a broken left thigh.

Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarikei officer Lt Shahrol Azizi Zaidi said a team was dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 10.05pm.

On arrival, they found that the victim was lying on the road and they promptly administered initial treatment before rushing him to Sarikei Hospital for further attention.

It was said that at the time of the incident, the victim was about to turn into a junction when he collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, the driver escaped unharmed in the accident.
