KUCHING: Motorcyclists here have received early Christmas presents in the form of a RM5 petrol subsidy.
The petrol subsidy is part of a community programme organised by the Stampin Parliamentary Service Centre, in collaboration with the Petronas Sg Maong Station located at Everbright Estate and the Petronas 8th Mile Station at Jalan Kuching-Serian.
“This year, the programme will benefit at least 400 motorcyclists. For the two petrol stations, each motorcyclist will receive the RM5 petrol subsidy. Additionally, we will also give each rider a Sugarbun meal coupon worth RM15.
“We hope this will bring some Christmas joy to the riders, especially the B40, as they head back to their villages or commute between the city and their villages,” Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen told reporters after attending the Petrol Subsidy Programme at the Petronas Sg Maong Station today (Dec 24).
Chong added that the subsidy is capped at the first 200 motorcyclists per station and benefits people of all races, not just those celebrating Christmas.
When asked if the petrol subsidy programme would be an annual event, he responded, “It will depend on the funding allocated to the MPs. As long as there is funding, we can continue to implement similar programmes.”
Earlier, Chong stopped at the Petronas 8th Mile Station before proceeding to the Petronas Sg Maong Station.
Upon arrival, he assisted motorcyclists in filling their tanks.
At the Petronas Sg Maong Station, several motorcyclists were seen waiting as early as 9.30 am to enjoy the subsidy.
