SARATOK: Newly minted motorcyclists with their Class B2 licenses obtained through the MyLesen Assistance Programme must adhere to traffic laws, said Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.
Mohamad pointed out statistics from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) that showed over 6,000 fatalities nationwide in 2023, with motorcyclists accounting for more than 4,000 deaths.
“These numbers have increased compared to 2022.
“Having a license is crucial, but it’s useless without following the rules. Stubbornness and recklessness on the road will only lead to tragedy,” he told reporters after inspecting a driving test session under the programme recently.
Mohamad commended participants in the Kalaka and Krian constituencies’ programme, urging them to be model road users by practicing safe and responsible riding habits.
“Teenagers are our target group, as many rely on motorbikes for school commutes. This programme instills in them the importance of road safety regulations. We hope this knowledge translates into safe riding practices, including helmet use and avoiding dangerous manoeuvers,” he added.
Mohamad thanked the Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ), ING Driving Academy, and the service centre office for their collaboration in ensuring the smooth execution of programme.
