KUCHING: Malaysia must have the right leaders to ensure that any law or system be implemented well.
In stating this, the former minister in the prime minister’s department, Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim stressed that whatever law or system that is in place, there must be the right person to ensure its implementation.
“It does not matter how good the law or system is, it will not make any difference if the right person is not appointed.
“If we make changes to the law or system, if we (leaders) do not have integrity, no intellectual capacity, then it will not work out well.”
He said this during the Minda Profesor Negara (GE15 Series Dialogue) titled ‘What Is Wrong With Our System? Legislation and Politics?’ organised by National Council of Professors (MPN) which was broadcast live on Facebook on yesterday (Oct 18).
Mohd Zaid pointed out the country’s leaders must also know the real problem faced by the people.
“Because our leaders like big things such as having the tallest building, and many highways.
“So, our leaders must know the problems of the world – important matters – the needy, those without education,” he pointed out.
The moderator for the dialogue was fellow of MPN, Dr Muhammad Asri Mohd Ali.
