SRI AMAN: Rimbas United emerged as the champions of Sri Aman Closed Sepak Takraw Championship 2017 to win Hajjah Simon Peri Cup, Lingga State Assemblyman.
Rimbas United won the match after defeating team Semadi Nadai through final action at Multipurpose Court, Saberkas Kampung Hilir Sri Aman in straight sets 22-20, 21-16.
With the victory, Rimbas United took home a cash prize of RM500, medals and a Challenge Trophy Hajah Simon Peri, Lingga State Assemblyman.
Meanwhile the runners-up, team Semadi Nadai brought home a cash prize of RM250, a accompany trophy and medals while third place team, HGSS & Manitowok A took home a cash prize of RM150, a accompany trophy and medals.
Lingga Assemblyman, Hajah Simon Peri gave away the prizes.
Also present at the ceremony were the deputy chairman of the Saberkas Lingga Branch, Mas Shamsudin Mohammad, chairman of Sepak Takraw Association Sri Aman, Dahlan and competition chairman, Zaidil Ripin.
Zaidil said the contest was held by Kelab Sepak Takraw Simanggang (KERAS) in collaboration with the Lingga Service Center, Sepak Takraw Association of Sri Aman and Saberkas Unit Ladong.
‘Sports takraw looks increasingly popular in Sri Aman in recent years. Hence, by organising this sport we hope to enhance the sport’s popularity among the people.
“At the same time, the competition indirectly allows us to spot new talents in sports takraw who can be brought up to a higher level in future,” he said.
A total of 20 teams took part in the tournament.
