KUCHING: Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot extended his condolences to the families of those who perished in a helicopter crash at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut, Perak today.

Among the casualties was Joanna Felicia Rohna, a 24-year-old from his constituency and one of the ten RMN personnel who died in a mid-air collision involving two helicopters.

“Today, we were shocked by an incident where two helicopters collided during a mid-air manoeuvre in flypast training for the RMN’s 90th anniversary celebration.

“All crew and passengers were confirmed dead, including Joanna Felicia from Kampung Sumpas Tampek, Serian,” Riot said.

The RMN reported that the M503-3 Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM) was carrying four crew members and three passengers, including Joanna, while the Fennec M502-6 had three crew members aboard.

Riot, who had just arrived in Kuala Lumpur to attend a briefing when he learned of the tragedy, directed his service centre officers to promptly assist the victims’ families in the village.
