Civil servants to be smarter in handling issues on social media
KUCHING: State civil servants have been told to be more intelligent in handling negative information on social media.
They were also advised to rise above the childish brickbat, which are not based on real facts and knowledge.
Speaking at the State Civil Service (SCS) Excellence Night 2018 on Sunday night, State Secretary Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani said the civil service now was faced with challenges of negative information on social media.
He warned: “The act of spreading and spinning untrue and unsubstantiated information received from social media are unethical and immoral”.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the event held at The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.
Meanwhile, Morshidi advised civil servants against sharing any confidential information to avoid public confusion.
Confidential information were not supposed to be disclosed to others, he said adding: “We are all subject to the Secrecy Act and General Order”.
With the changes and disruption happening through the digital technology, he said it would be wise for civil servants to take advantage of it or risk going into the regressive direction.
“The economy will be left behind, the people will not be advanced and the better ones may leave or migrate to other countries if these opportunities are not taken advantage of.
“Therefore, in this disruptive challenging time, the civil service has to do more, achieve more and deliver more to ensure continuous progress,” he stressed.
Morshidi said: “Each and everyone of us (civil servants) has to increase our productivity, our ingenuity, innovation and our creativity to deliver more than what we have done before”.
On the Sarawak Civil Service transformation journey, he said it would continue with more radical changes to be undertaken through the innovation and creativity initiatives through ‘Kumpulan Inovatif and Kreatif’ (KIK), Key Focus Area Activities (KFA), The High Performance Team (HPT) and Human Resource Talent Management.
He said this year’s High Performance Team retreat was another effort to find solutions on current Government emphasis for fast execution of high impact and people-centric projects.
He said amongst the key solutions were to advance the process of project planning and initial works through front-end engineering and to review terms of contract for projects including Extension of Time and Provision for Termination of Contractors.
At the SCS Excellence Night 2018, Abang Johari also launched the Second Version of Managing Culture Change In The Sarawak Civil Service SCS 10-20 Action Plan Book.
The book is about translating the Managing Culture Change Transformation Plan under the SCS 10-20 Action Plan in the form of understandable format for the reference of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) workforce.
The book will also become a reference for all SCS especially the leaders, to practice the SCS Shared Values and implement Managing Culture Change Initiatives at their respective agencies.
