My Team U20 out to make impact in Mukah league
MUKAH: Debutants My Team U20 are poised to make an impact in the ongoing Mukah top football league, Setia Raja Mukah League (LSRM-LSC 2017) which kicked off on Saturday (July 30).
Managed by Mukah Parliamentary Youth Organisation (MPYO) chairman, Royston Valentine, the recently formed team won the berth in this local top flight tournament following the pull-out of an undisclosed regular team.
In their opening match on Tuesday, the talented youngsters took on IPDM FC, which are among the top eight teams in the local league.
The eight teams to be featured in the tournament would be Landas FC, Tellian Tujunokala, Daro FC, Press Metal Sarawak, IPDM FC, Sarawak Coal, MPG United and My Team U20.
Balingian Assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Haji Arbi was expected to officiate the tournament at 4pm at Padang Mesra Mukah on Tuesday afternoon.
Apart from the top plight LSRM-LSC 2017 tournament, the Mukah Division Football Association (MuFA) also mulls to hold a second tier competition to accommodate other football teams in the area and name it Liga MuFA 2017.
According to MuFA deputy president, Ajahar Bakar, the top six teams would be retained in next year’s LSRM-LSC 2018, while two bottom ones would be playing in Liga MuFA 2018, with the top two from the second tire league to be promoted to the top flight.
They have to stage LSRM-LSC first following the request from Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) to hold the main league spontaneously throughout the state, before the Sarawak Cup 2017 n October this year with Mukah Division as the host.
Mukah is poised to retain its status as one of the football powerhouses in the state by producing several state players since 1980s until now, among whom the present Crocs custodian, Mohamad Aidil, hails from this fast growing division.
