MATU: The long-awaited cleanup of Sungai Matu will commence soon, with a local contractor already selected to carry out the project.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya witnessed the handover a contract worth RM728,020 to contractor M/S Wan Hamid by the Matu and Daro District Council (MDMD)on Sunday (Sept 15).

According to the Jemoreng assemblyman, the initiative aims to complement the ongoing cleaning efforts by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).

The MDMD will prioritise areas not covered by the DID’s projects.

The first phase of the cleaning works will focus on three key stretches of Sungai Matu, with Work Directive No. 1 covering 1.53 km from Kampung Sekaan Kecil to Kampung Bawang Matu, Work Directive No. 2 covering 2.04 km in Kampung Sekaan Besar Matu, and Work Directive No. 3 covering 2.68 km in Kampung Sok Matu.

“The cleaning process will continue in phases based on the priority of the areas, following a comprehensive study,” he said.

“This initiative will be implemented in areas not assigned to DID’s cleaning projects to ensure efficient and coordinated efforts.”
