KUCHING: The newly refurbished Riverside Majestic Hotel (RMH) is opening its doors for business after undergoing renovations and upgrading works during the course of the pandemic over the last two years.
Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said the refurbished five-star hotel will host the first event, which is SEDC’s 50th Anniversary tonight (July 4).
“In conjunction with the reopening of the hotel, the anniversary celebration will take place at the Sarawak Chambers ballroom with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as guest of honour.
“We are delighted with the completion of refurbishment works on the grand ballroom and function rooms in time for our anniversary dinner with guests from local and other states expected to attend.
“Other than that, facilities here including the restaurant and dining outlets, swimming pool and rooms are expected to be reopen for business very soon,” he said.
He was speaking during a press conference held at the hotel’s VIP Holding Room, yesterday (July 3), accompanied by SEDC’s general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir and his deputy Rakayah Hamdan.
Aziz added that with the surge of visitors expected in Sarawak, the hotel is ready to cater the visitors.
“We expect there will be a surge of visitors coming into Sarawak in view of international events such as the International Dragon Boat Race, Sarawak Regatta, Kuching International Marathon, What About Kuching (WAK) and so on.”
He also informed that there are a total of seven function rooms and 241 guest rooms at the hotel, however, some are still being renovated and will be completed in December.
In another development, Aziz mentioned that there are plans to refurbish and renovate a few hotels across the state to increase the hotel rating to five stars.
“The industry is moving forward but what we need is skilled manpower to help maintain and run the hotels and their operations.
“Hence, the hotels have put advertisements to recruit staff and also working with education and skills institutions to provide more work opportunities for the people.
“We are also working to transform and improve the way hotels operate so that we can serve our guests efficiently,” added Aziz.
