IGAN: A total of 113 recipients from the Melanau and Iban communities have received compensation amounting to RM1,177,090.94 for the road project in Kampung Kebuaw/Telok Deloh/Bungan Kecil.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan pointed out that the Sarawak government is committed to bringing development to every location for the benefit of local residents.

He added that compensation is provided for development that involves individual land, but it is only applicable to registered land.

“Use the compensation wisely, especially for needs and emergencies,” he said in his speech delivered by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya during the cheque presentation ceremony held recently.

Awang Tengah also called for cooperation from the residents involved in the development project to ensure work can proceed smoothly.

The 70km road project from Igan Bridge to Sibu is actively being carried out, benefitting coastal Melanau residents in Daro, Matu, Igan, Dalat, Oya and Mukah by facilitating community movement and reducing travel time and distance.
