MIRI: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the federal government has approved RM1.2 million to begin preliminary work on GK Roundabout Pujut 3 this year.
During a site visit yesterday, Nanta stated, “The estimated cost of the roundabout is approximately RM67 million.”
The plan is to replace the roundabout with signalised traffic junctions and widen the existing four lanes to six dual carriageways.
Nanta highlighted that the project also includes the implementation of a smart traffic light system.
He emphasized the importance of upgrading the GK Roundabout to improve traffic efficiency on the Pujut-Kuala Baram, Pujut-Miri, and Piasau Roads.
These three roads are consistently congested during peak hours due to the road and roundabout design.
“In total, the federal government, through my ministry, has allocated RM400,000 to upgrade and repair several accident ‘hotspot’ roads, identifying a few accident-prone locations in Miri,” he added.
During yesterday’s visit, Nanta was joined by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man, and Miri Mayor Adam Yii.
