TATAU: A total of RM10.5 million has been approved by the state government for the repairing and cleaning purpose of schools that were affected by floods in the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said the amount was approved to assist the cleaning and repairing of 173 schools affected throughout Sarawak.
“This immediate fund does not include funding from the federal government as the state government wants the learning session to be interrupted for too long by the flood,” he said in his brief speech at the Transfer Centre at Tatau Sports Hall, Tatau, yesterday.
Johari was on a visit to the temporary flood relief centre to look into the situation and the needs of those affected by the flood.
“Two of the worst flooded areas in Bintulu include Tatau and Selangau,” he said.
In his speech, he revealed that another RM250,000 was also approved for the repair of two clinics in Tatau which were also flooded last week.
“The repair for the Nanga Tau and Nanga Sangan Rural Clinic needs to be implemented immediately because the state government does not want the spread of infectious diseases in the area,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Minister of Utilities Dato’ Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
