SIBU: Passengers of extra boats in the Sibu-Song-Kapit and Kapit-Song- Sibu sectors will get to enjoy a RM10 subsidy this festive season.
However, the subsidy is only for passengers of the extra boats applied for by the operators and approved by the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB).
“The operators of the express boats have applied to have extra boats for the Gawai and Raya celebrations, and we feel that the subsidy is reasonable to lighten the burden of those making the journey home to be with their families,” said Coastal Road Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi yesterday.
Julaihi, who had just launched the Riverine Safety Campaign, said the subsidy applies to those travelling from May 25 to 31 for the Sibu-Song-Kapit sector and from June 3 to 9 for the Kapit-Song-Sibu sector.
He said the subsidy is an initiative by the state government who wants more Sarawakians to make that annual pilgrimage home safely.
