KUCHING: The price of a flight ticket from the Peninsula to Sarawak at RM1,000 is unreasonable, said Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“At one time RM300, another time RM1,000, and when many people want to buy tickets, the price can go up.
“Therefore, there must be certain methods to explain the price as stated.
“If the price is RM1,000, it is certainly not affordable for many,” he said.
He was commenting on the development of flight ticket prices from the peninsula to Sarawak on Sunday (April 17).
Therefore, he said, the proposal to put a ceiling price on the flight ticket should be considered as it would benefit the public.
“We acknowledge that plane ticket prices are set based on supply and demand.
“So if the ticket price is set at RM500, then I can say that the price is reasonable but it is better to have a ceiling price,” he said.
Commenting on the Sarawak government’s proposal to have its own flights and aircraft, he said it would provide alternative flights into the state.
