KUCHING:  12 women’s associations and welfare bodies yesterday received RM10,000 each during the Women’s Day Luncheon with the wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Raghad Kurdi Taib, at the Astana here.

Among the recipients were the Sarawak Single Mothers Association, Sarawak Human Progress Foundation, Society of Kuching Urban Poor,  Hun Nam Siang T’ng, Sarawak Rurum Kelabit Women Association, the Women’s Bureau of Sarawak Bisaya Association, Home of Peace,   Kuching Division Journalists Association    and Sarawak Indian Women Association.

The purpose of the luncheon was to celebrate Women’s Day and show appreciation to women involved in welfare activities.

Also those present were the Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, wife of the Chief Minister, Datin Amar Dato Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, wife of Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datin Amar Doreen Mayang Uggah and wife of Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, Puan Sri Datin Amar Corrine Masing.

Raghad also invited representatives of nine associations and welfare bodies, namely, the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati), The Sarawak Government Service Welfare and Recreational Council (MAKSAK),  Malaysian Armed Forces Family Welfare Body (BAKAT), Police Family Association (PERKEP), Sarawak Federation of Women’s Institute (PPWS), Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak, Federation of Chinese Women, Sarawak Family Planning Association, Orang Ulu Women Association and Pink Ribbon Support Group Sarawak.

Besides the presentation of cheques, other highlights included a cake cutting ceremony and a lucky draw.
