KUCHING: San Seng Tong Temple (SST) here yesterday managed to raise RM10,000 from its Wisdom Run. Nearly 700 people took part in the 3KM and 6KM run organised by SST Youth Section, with the main purpose of raising funds for the development of the San Seng Tong Centre of Buddhism Culture and Education to be located next to the temple. The run was flagged-off by Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also President of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

According to the temple’s Senior Master Venerable Fo Sheng, the existing temple space is insufficient to accommodate the learning centre.

“Now our classes and activities are held in the main temple building. Sometimes, we are afraid they will interrupt those who are praying,” she said. With the building of the centre, Fo Sheng said educational classes and other activities could be held in a wider area.

“The RM10 million four-storey centre consists of a main shrine, a kindergarten, a youth centre, an activity centre, a meditation hall, bedrooms and a multipurpose hall. It is expected to be completed within two years,” she said. Fp Sheng added that so far, the temple had already raised about RM600,000 through various activities such as a food fair, performances and mini events.

The construction of the SST Education Centre is divided into three stages. The first stage involving the pilling work will cost approximately RM2.5 million. The second stage involves the construction of the building that will cost RM4 million. Meanwhile, the third stage involves the setting up of facilities which will cost RM3.5 million.

Currently, SST is not only a place for religious activities and praying but also a place where numerous activities are held. SST’s core objective is to promote and spread Buddha’s teaching. Those who wish to contribute towards the centre can visit the temple at No. 620, Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman from 8am to 5pm. For further enquiries, call 082-332377 or email to sansengtong620@gmail.com.
