RM11.2 bln investment approved under FiT

KUCHING: Sustainable Energy Development Authority   (SEDA) Malaysia has specially been given the mandate to develop the Renewable Energy Transition Roadmap (RETR) 2050  which is expected to be completed next year.

Acting Deputy Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water  Senator Dato’ Sri Devamany S. Krishnan said  the Roadmap  shall guide the country towards its energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

He disclosed that to date SEDA has approved  an estimated  investment of RM11.2 billion under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme and these projects are estimated  to create around 27,00 jobs.

“As at end of January 2018, a cumulative total of 12,190 FiT applications have been approved with the total renewable energy capacity of 1,636 megawatt of which  534 megawatt has achieved commercial  operation,” he said  in his welcoming remarks at the official opening of the 4th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2018 last Tuesday.

Organised  jointly by  SEDA Malaysia together with the Ministry of Utilities Sarawak and co-hosted by the Ministry of  Energy, Green Technology and Water and the Sarawak State Government, the Summit with the theme “Sustainable Energy: The Future Is Here” was officially opened by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg.

Devamany also pointed out that Malaysia is a global pioneer in the green sukuk, a syariah-compliant socially responsible investment (SRI) instrument.

During the Summit, three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed and witnessed by the Chief Minister.

The first MoU was signed between SEDA Malaysia and Pusat Latihan Proaktif  (PLP) Sarawak on a “Mutual Co-operation on Human Capital Development”.  The MoU was to strengthen human capital development such as providing the  basic  and competency training programme for local engineers and technicians in the field of  Solar Photovoltaic (PV) technology in Sarawak.

The second MoU was between Petra Energy  Berhad and Pekat Teknologi Sdn Bhd while the third MoU was between Cypark Re-store Sdn Bhd  and Tesvolt GmbH.

The summit concluded with  a Gala Dinner hosted by the State Government with the Chief Minister as the guest-of- honour.
